Billy Ray Carter
Billy Ray Carter, 84, of Roanoke Rapids, died Friday, March 27, 2015.
Billy, a native of Edgecombe County, was the son of the late Willie Robert and Bessie Gray Edmondson Carter.
He was a Veteran of the United States Army, serving during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of AMVETS Post 38, a Mason, and a member of First Pentecostal Holiness Church in Roanoke Rapids. Billy was the owner of the Sunoco gas station at the corner of 10th and Marshall Streets for many years. An outdoorsman, Billy loved to hunt and fish.
He is survived by his wife, Christine Organ Carter; stepson, Greg Liles and his wife, Kay Lawrence of Littleton; grandchildren, Lori Anne Liles Cain of Lewiston and Lynley Faith Liles of Littleton, and Christina Sewell of Roanoke Rapids.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, March 31, 2015 at 3:00 PM at the First Pentecostal Holiness Church in Roanoke Rapids with Rev. D. A. Leonard officiating.
Burial will follow in Cedarwood Cemetery in Roanoke Rapids with Military Honors.
The family will receive friends on Monday from 6-7:30 PM at Askew Funeral and Cremation Services.
